Our Story
The Cherish Respite story began in 2021.
Milly Carr has been a Registered Nurse for the past 20+ years. Whilst working as a Community Palliative Care Nurse, Milly recognised that there were many cases where families would have liked to keep their loved one at home during their final days.
“Being in familiar surroundings brings a sense of security, and peace of mind, and can reduce fear and anxiety. This is true for the patient, and also for family and friends wanting to spend precious time with them” reflects Milly.
While staying in their own home was often the first choice, it was not always possible. Families have work and other commitments, can live far away, and are often unable to provide the level of care required. Over time, carers can become fatigued or overwhelmed. They may need a break, to recharge and return with renewed energy.
Milly recognised the need for a holistic home-based care service, and so Cherish Respite was born. Supporting people in their homes, working alongside families and making them feel safe, knowing they could achieve the goal of caring for their loved ones.
Since its inception, Cherish Respite has supported many families in their time of need. We have grown from palliative care to include a large range of support options, from companionship to dementia care, postnatal support, and everything in between.
Cherish Respite’s Carers and Registered Nurses are handpicked by Milly to provide compassionate, professional in-home support, tailored to your unique circumstances.
